Working in Ireland

During the last couple of years I have become a tourist Guide. Because I have lived and spent at lot of time working in Ireland I have come to know the country quite well, sometimes it feels like I have lived here as a tourist myself for the last ten years and never really settled into the idea that I would stay here.

Although I like Ireland I have not wanted to stay here long term, ten years however have just disappeared. Though during that ten years I also lived in Wien for while, then Prague for a while also, not too bad. Now it looks like it might be our last year here as we are talking about moving next year, so I have started to see all the places that I have just not got around to, like yesterday we went to Powerscourt House. I had seen powerscourt from a distance - the top of Sugar Loaf, and not thought it very attractive to visit. The idea of just wandering around Gardens, well it does not turn me on. However to my surprise it was great, there will be another post about that later.

Back to working in Ireland. I have had so many jobs here that at one point it was just not funny. During the time of the celtic tiger it was just so easy to move to another job. But I was a bit crazy and never really found a job I liked very much. I worked in various accountancy roles - oh how that hurt my head. The best decision I made was to chuck it all and go to Uni, English Lit and Philosophy. Being a student opened my eyes to many other possibilities in life and changed the direction of work for me. So a big thank you to the Irish government who made that possible with the no fees for students.

I persevered for many years also working in credit control - I look back at that now and wonder how I could have been so mad. However I am now building a web site on credit control procedures - what a world!

Ireland has been good to me since I stepped off the boat onto its shores. It has not always been easy, but there has been a huge amount of happiness here and some truly great friendship.
