Are airlines telling us the whole truth – it does not seem so. A friend last night complained at the price of his ticket from Paris to Dublin. Aer Lingus advertise it at €10 each way – so one would assume €20. But no…
After taxes and charges the actual cost was €98 – €78 of a difference. All down to taxes and charges, something that the airlines hide very well by refusing to tell you what these are, and to break it down. Try talking to them – ask them for a breakdown of the charges – I have tried with Aer Lingus and British Airways this morning – it would be more fun running into a brick wall.
There are taxes included in the price – search “departure tax” to start with. However the airlines hide all sorts in here. Fuel surcharge, security charge, booking fee – would you believe they charge you a separate amount to buy a ticket with them on-line – and more if done over the phone. And the new one of baggage fee – feeling like you are getting a great deal as the customer?
Now instead of telling me and advertising the price as say €70 and I think “great” – what happens is they send me an email telling me of the great flight offer – I go and look – and then leave feeling like someone is trying to rip me off with false advertising.
Is this legal – it must be or someone would be on them.
I would feel happier if they would break down the costs for me. And much happier if they would stop lying to me about a ticket price.
The cost of my flight includes all of these – please stop lying.
I would tell you more about the Air Lingus policy – but hey their web site doesn’t even work properly today.
