Cheap Hotel Ireland – No Such Thing

by Leslie on April 11, 2007

I work on the web, all day writing and building web sites. I see the adverts all the time for cheap hotels in Ireland or Dublin, and I laugh. There really is no such thing – the Celtic tiger is still alive and roaring.

I just spent the weekend in Donegal. Having never been there before I thought yeah somewhere different for a change. The change being from the West Coast. I didn’t even bother to look at hotel prices, but had a little peak a the B&B’s. You know I am not poor – but hell, who are the people paying these prices?

So as usual I get on to the cottage for rent sites. €400 for three nights. Am I just out of touch with reality? As I still find it a bit on the expensive side. Way past all large towns, not a beach in sight, have to drive anywhere, but still…

Did I have a good weekend? Yes, it is sometimes great to get out of the city and recharge the batteries, feel the wind, and listen… no noise, no sirens going somewhere in the back ground, so yes the €400 was worth it I grudgingly admit. Scottish to the end.
