A bit of a strange heading perhaps, however it is a tea that I drink almost every day. We had fun over the whole earl gray experience while living as students in Maynooth.
Five of us shared an apartment as students together attending NUIM, some post grads others under. Much of the time remains as fond memories in my mind. This is where the eral gray experience comes in. Dara loved his tea, and according to finances at the time Earl gray was his favorite. Never was it made in a cup, my god that would have been blasphemous, it always had to be a pot of tea – and given some time to brew.
Instead of calling it Earl Gray – it ended it being called Earl Gay, really just to wind up one of our crowd who was a touch homophobic. He became less homophobic, but the name stuck to the tea while we all lived there.
Moving on, as we all do, one is married and teaching, two are still studying (Phd), one kids us that he is studying in Paris, one is dead (way too young for that, and missed by us all), and me, doing some stuff that is interesting. While there in Maynooth we talked about the present or the immediate future (exams!!), but now a couple of years down the road could we, any of us, have imagined where we are now? Getting up every day and putting ourself forward in life, just this simple thing and bloody wonderful things happen.
I don’t think there is “a god” – however I do think there is something – and I have no idea what it is. Have a good one, mean-while Anna has just made me Earl Gay tea, and it is time for breakfast, have a great day.

Hey Les,
Likin the brief insight into those days in Maynooth when everything
seemed a hell of a lot easier and straight forward. Not that life now
is a struggle or anything like that. I just feel that more is expected
of us. Getting older, studies coming to an end and the inevitable
stream of questions being asked. Bring back the days of Earl Gay and
7B Erne Hall. Although I have began to drink Verveine tea, I suggest
you give it a try!! Be well.
