Just picked up this thread and would like to point out that the law in Ireland states that a retailer can display any price he likes and charge a different one at the till so long as the customer is informed of the correct price before handing over their cash. It is not ilegal to do this, but simply bad practise. I know this because my local Spar did this to me and I complained to trading standards/consumer rights immediately. They informed me that they could not prosecute the store for this, but would visit them to check it out and advise them it was bad practise. They contacted me two weeks later to inform me that they had indeed visited the store and the manager would like me to go back as he wished to apologise and offer me some chocolates. I did not bother to visit him as I was still angry because when I did complain on the day I was met by disinterested staff who said that was the way things were and that no manager was available at the time. I work in the hospitality industry and will also ensure that a manager or supervisor is available to listen to any issues my customers have. Your customers are your business. I no longer shop in that particular Spar and never will again. FYI the product incorrectly priced was not a mistake as it was advertised as on sale at half price with a massive sale sign above it... but at till they tried to charge me the full price without even informing me.

I have no connection with Halford's, business or personal. Nor with anyone who works there. But wanted to say this -

that it's all down to personal experience, clearly.

Living in Ballyfermot, I use Liffey Valley Halford's a good bit - two motorbikes to keep going.

There's one young guy in particular, and I'm not saying he knows anthing about the technical side of bikes, but I always find him top drawer for enthusiasm and helpfulness. And just pleasant really.

Plus, it was great to watch him challenge a couple of scumbags the week before last, who were trying to steal brake pads.

Looks like conscientiousness to me anyway.

On the other hand, the young wans working the till... chewing gum and texting, oblivious while you're standing there, waiting. Useless lazy bimbos.

I think Halfords should probably have a look at the Sale of Goods and Supply of Services Act 1980

Right, first of all its not the staffs fault for the price being 16 quid too much because i work for halfords and i know that it is head ofices fault as they expect staff to know when price changes occur....but they do not tell you when these changes occur you have to find out for yourself....im workin there for a year and i think that is the best crack and fun i am having....fuckin brilliant company to work for! Bonuses galore!!
