SEO, search engine optimization – dull, boring, tedious… however it has to be done, every day!
So what is it. Many people think that you build a web site, stick it up on the web and visitors come and then Google, Yahoo!, and MSN rate your site based on the content – I wish this was the case.
This is what really happens. You build your web site, put it up on the web and no one sees it apart from your friends; that is, the ones you tell and give the URL to. Don’t get me wrong you do need good original content, no one will come back otherwise. But the content is only the start of a long process, a good start though.
You need links to the site. A link is an underlined bit of text on another site that when clicked takes the suffer to your site. And depending on what you want listed for, you might need thousands of them. Now, it is not just any old text on the link either, and that can be the tricky bit. A link that says “click here” is almost a waste is space, almost, however every link counts.
This is the type of link that is required. Prague City and Czech Republic Travel Guide, now that is good, great if you can get it in a paragraph like this, and bloody wonderful if you can get it in a high PR page. Now why is this so good? I want the site eventually to be found on the search engines for any of the words in this link, or any combination of them. Therefore the words MUST be in links to the site, otherwise stop writing now and go and get a job working for someone.
The absolute best links to get on the internet are links like this in a paragraph, with the anchor text you want and the link is from an .edu site, I have only achieved that from the Camino site, and only once, and it was just luck nothing to do with web marketing.
