Saturday Morning

Saturday Morning and I sit as usual in front of my computer. I have a new site on Glendalough which is doing well and I like – that last part always seems to help. Writing these days has been hard going – I would much rather be out walking than building my websites on the walks I have enjoyed.

Anyway life is good. I came across something recently about aiming to do the best in everything I do – there is a difference there in aiming to do your best as opposed to being the best. One is you only and the other is comparing with others – often not a good habit.

I like this idea and know that in some areas I do it already. On my pages on Glendalough above I think they are the best current resource on the internet on Glendalough, so I want them to come in at no 1 in Google when people search for Glendalough – they don’t just now (a frustrating no 6)

However there are many areas in life where I just stop when I think I have done enough, that is not so good for me, there is little satisfaction in those type of actions for me. And yes, I do want to be satisfied with what I do.

I remember a long time ago when I was very very young I was speaking to someone who wasn’t. I was saying that I wanted to be in the top 10% in everything that I did. I did not quite understand the full implications of that statement then and I would phrase it differently now – but with the same sentiment. However they were of the opinion that I expected way too much.

I know now it is amazingly easy to be in the top 10% of many things. I prefer though the ideology of doing my best, usually when I am not it is simple laziness. Not an attractive trait.
