West Highland Way

by Leslie on June 12, 2007

The West Highland Way by Walking in Scotland is a web site that I have been writing for a while. I have walked parts of it again recently to get some good photos, but time is always an issue at present, therefore the photos are not yet up, but soon hopefully.

I forget that Scotland is so beautiful. Every time I go back I find the landscape and scenery stunning. I live in Dublin and I an lucky that I have the Dublin Mountains nearby for walking most weekends, however they are mostly flat tops – but I do still have fun walking there.

At this time of the year the West highland way is full of walkers, hostels and bed & breakfasts are completely booked out. But now is much better than July and Aug when the midges are out to kill and the schools are on holiday – be prepared for mayhem.

My favourite time is September. The days are still reasonably long and have some heat still; the midges don’t seem as bad and the summer has dried out some of the wet bits along the route. I have found that I could spend huge amounts of my life walking if I had the time and money…

Between walking in Scotland, Ireland, Czech Republic, Austria, and Spain; I could go on forever walking and writing about it all. There is a simplicity to life when the days are just concerned with putting one foot in front of the other, a simplicity that is not there in day to day living, with the ring of phones, email, and work.

Do you ever see people do the West Highland Way walk wearing a kilt? Do they survive well enough? If I did the walk I would want to wear my kilt.
love the info and the blog,

You’re taking the piss – kilts are for weddings, tourists, and crazy people.
